TREASURER'S OFFICE

TUITION WAIVER FOR RESIDENTS
65 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the tuition waiver for residents 65 years of age and older is to ensure that any North Carolina resident who chooses to enroll in classes on a available space basis has a formalized process to facilitate their needs.

POLICY:

Regulations have been established by the U.N.C. Board of Governors under Chapter 981, 1977 Session Laws to allow North Carolina residents age sixty-five years and older to attend classes on a space-available basis without payment of tuition and required fees.

PROCEDURE:

Upon being presented with a request to enroll relative to tuition waiver for North Carolina residents 65 years or older the Office of Summer Sessions and Outreach must determine age and residency status by requesting acceptable and verifiable identification with supporting photograph (i.e.: N.C. driver license, birth certificate, passport, etc.). The Office of Summer Sessions and Outreach will make a copy of the required identification and retain for their files and records. No Student Activity Card will be issued.
